The material hydroxyapatite (HA) bioceramic has a composition close to the inorganic component of human bone. It exhibits excellent biocompatibility and can form a strong chemical bond with bone, making it an ideal hard tissue replacement material. However, the commonly prepared HA implants generally have high elastic modulus but low strength, with less-than-ideal activity. Phosphate glass adhesives are selected to bond HA raw material powders together at a temperature lower than the traditional sintering temperature, thereby reducing the elastic modulus while ensuring the material's activity.
Cohesion Technologies announced that they have developed Coseal sealant adhesive for cardiac bonding, which has been successfully used in clinical practice. A comparative study of 21 cardiac surgeries in Europe found that surgeries using Coseal significantly reduced surgical adhesions compared to other methods. Subsequent preliminary clinical studies showed that Coseal sealant adhesive has great development potential in cardiac, gynecological, and abdominal surgeries. The application of adhesives in the medical field is hailed as a new growth point for the adhesive industry.
