Brief Introduction to Polymer Adhesives

Hits: 683 img

As a member of polymer materials, polymer adhesive is a kind of polymer composite material with polymer compounds as the main body. It is a single-component adhesive with strong adhesive force. Most of it is in the form of non-toxic and odorless dry powder, with strong heat dissipation ability, good impermeability, and resistance to water and aging.

Adhesive bonding is a very widely used process connection method. It uses the adhesive to generate a certain physical adsorption force, chemical bonding force and mechanical bonding force on the connection surface, so as to connect the two bonded parts. The process is simple and does not require complex process equipment.

Regarding the adhesion effect of the adhesive on two substances, various theories have been put forward. Among them, the most widely accepted theories include the mechanical theory, in which the adhesive penetrates into the voids on the surface of the adhered object and connects the surfaces through polymer chains to generate an adhesive effect, and the adsorption theory, in which the bonding effect is generated by the combined action of molecular contact and interfacial force at the interface between the two materials.

Polymer adhesives can be roughly divided into three categories:

  1. Epoxy resin: It has strong adhesive force and does not blend with other substances.
  2. Silicone rubber: It has good heat dissipation performance and is resistant to aging.
  3. Acrylate: It has stable properties and strong plasticity.
