Performance and Testing
Storage Life; Shelf Life: The maximum storage time during which an adhesive can still maintain its operational performance and specified strength under specified conditions.
Pot Life; Working Life: The time during which the prepared adhesive can maintain its usable performance. Synonym: Service Life.
Solids Content: The weight percentage of non-volatile substances in the adhesive measured under specified test conditions. Synonym: Non-volatile Matter Content.
Chemical Resistance: The ability of a bonded specimen to maintain its bonding performance after being exposed to chemicals such as acids, alkalis, and salts.
Solvent Resistance: The ability of a bonded specimen to maintain its bonding performance after being exposed to solvents.
Water Resistance: The ability of a bonded specimen to maintain its bonding performance after being exposed to water or moisture.
Ablation Resistance: The ability of an adhesive layer to resist the scouring of high-temperature flames and high-speed airflows.
Permanence; Durability: The ability of a bonded assembly to maintain its performance over a long period under service conditions.
Weather Resistance: The ability of a bond to resist climatic conditions such as sunlight, heat and cold, wind and rain, and salt spray.
Bonding Strength: The stress required to cause failure at the interface between the adhesive and the adherend or in the vicinity thereof in a bonded joint.
