Low-strength materials such as fabrics, felts or certain wood-like materials may be even more fragile than adhesives, resulting in joint failure occurring within the substrate itself. For such applications, the selected adhesive should enable the bonded assemblies to be used under any physical conditions that the base materials can withstand, without the risk of adhesive bond failure. In such cases, the use of high-strength adhesives would either over-engineer the bonded structure or lead to unnecessary cost escalation.
