  1. Wet-bonding Water-based Adhesives
Wet-bonding water-based adhesives are those that cure through evaporation, including dispersion systems and emulsion systems, as well as water-based solution adhesives that are mainly used for wet bonding. In this bonding process, the water-based adhesive is either applied to one adherend or to both adherends. The adherends come into contact with each other while the adhesive is still wet, hence the term "wet bonding". Since evaporation is the result of curing, it is extremely important that at least one of the adherends is porous, absorbs moisture, and allows it to leave the water-based adhesive system more quickly. If neither of the adherends is porous, the curing and hardening process may take a very long time. Wet-bonding water-based adhesive systems are mainly used in paper and packaging lamination processes, as well as in the furniture and mattress industries.
  2. Water-based Contact Adhesives
Contact adhesives, also known as dry-bonding water-based adhesives, are mainly emulsion and dispersion adhesives. Similar to solvent-based dispersions, the water-based adhesive is applied to both adherends, that is, the substrates to be bonded, and the water is allowed to evaporate before a bond is formed between the adhesives. Bonding occurs when the components coated with the water-based adhesive come into contact with each other.

Water-based contact adhesives are more widely used than wet-bonding systems because they are generally stronger, allow for a greater variety of substrates, and have better heat resistance. In these water-based adhesive mixtures, ingredients can be added to enhance and create properties including fire resistance, chemical resistance, and antistatic properties.
