Although adhesives are only auxiliary materials in building decoration, it doesn't mean they are unimportant. In actual decoration, a large number of materials (such as wallpapers, various types of floors, ceramic and stone decorative materials, etc.) are laid by pasting methods. Therefore, whether the selection of adhesives is appropriate directly affects the laying firmness and the decorative effect of the finish. When selecting adhesives, it is necessary to first understand their basic technical properties, which are the basic conditions for ensuring the bonding degree. Technical Properties of Adhesives:

  1. Processability
It refers to the performance related to the bonding operation of the adhesive, including the preparation of the adhesive, application of the glue, airing time, and curing conditions. It is also an evaluation of the difficulty of the bonding operation. As mentioned before, multi - component adhesives need to be prepared on - site. Chemical reaction - type adhesives have requirements for the temperature conditions of the curing reaction. Solvent - type adhesives need to be aired for a period of time after applying the glue until the solvent volatilizes before bonding. These issues must be clear when selecting and using adhesives to ensure the bonding effect.
  2. Bonding Strength
Bonding strength is a performance indicator to ensure the firmness of the bond. If the bonding strength is insufficient, the adhered object will fall off. In the case of wall decoration, the adhered object may fall down, which not only affects the decoration quality but may sometimes cause injury accidents.
  3. Stability
Stability refers to the degree of change in the strength of a bonded specimen after being immersed in a specified medium at a certain temperature for a period of time. For example, water resistance, oil resistance, etc. It is usually expressed by the measured strength or the strength retention rate. Adhesives used to bond floor, exterior wall, bathroom, toilet and other finish materials should have good stability.
  4. Durability (or Aging Resistance)
With the increase of service time, the performance of the bonding layer will gradually age until it loses its bonding strength. This property is called durability. Because the most widely used adhesives are organic polymer materials mainly composed of synthetic resins or synthetic rubbers, which are prone to aging and deterioration during use, causing the bonding layer to lose its effectiveness and fall off.
