What is Water-based Adhesive?

Hits: 807 img

Water-based adhesive primarily achieves drying or bonding by absorbing a significant amount of moisture from its surface. The adhesive contains raw solid starch that gelatinizes on the paste line to absorb water. Generally, the bonding process is relatively short, as the water is quickly absorbed by the air and paper fibers. Water-based adhesive is mainly used in corrugated board production lines for immediate and robust bonding effects.

To achieve the desired bonding effect, manufacturers often blend a suspension emulsion into the starch and water emulsion, enhancing bonding concentration and preventing sedimentation. Water-based adhesive is characterized by its good initial tack, strong holding power, high peel strength, excellent frost resistance, aging resistance, non-toxicity, odorlessness, superior pressure-sensitive adhesive properties, and ease of use. It is primarily applied in the coating and manufacturing processes of sealing tapes, labels, trademarks, and other products.

This type of water-based adhesive is harmless to humans. However, during use, we should not add raw water to it, mix it with other liquids, or consume it. Any unused adhesive should be properly sealed.

Proper storage of water-based adhesive is crucial. It should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, and cold. During inspection, if there are no agglomerations or unpleasant odors, the adhesive can be used. Otherwise, it may be expired.
